Plinia sp. Hybrid Big Fruit Paulista (Black Pearl) Jaboticaba is a hybrid variety from Taiwan that was identified at a large Plinia nursery and is of unknown ancestry. The leaves look like they have aureana or phitrantha genes in them and thus will likely fruit at the 4-7 year mark. The fruit transitions from dark red with greenish bronze streaks to very dark purple almost black when ripe and has a rostrate point at the connection with the peduncle. The fruit can be fairly smooth or costate and often grows in clusters of 3-6 fruit. The sepal often stay on the fruit but is easily brushed off. The fruit are typically around 3cm. diameter but can easily pass the 4cm mark.
