Plinia sp. Gigante de Goiânia Jaboticaba Seeds
Plinia sp. Gigante de Goiânia Jaboticaba is a cultivar that came to prominence in the city of Goiânia, in Goiás state, Brazil where it won praise due to its large size which was compared to a chicken egg (no actual measurements available). The cultivar is thought to be a possible hybrid of Plinia oblongata (Ponhema) and Plinia jaboticaba "Pingo de Mel" which would account for its large size (Ponhema can reach 4 cm) and sweetness (Pingo de Mel is the only cultivar grown by Fazenda Jabuticabal which has 30,000+ Pingo de Mel trees for commercial production in Brazil). The fruit has thin skin, small seeds, and high percentage of sweet pulp.
