Patinoa almirajo, or South American Sapote, produces large yellow fruit that have a sweet canistel like taste. The fruit has a minor amount of commerical trade in the west coast Chocó region of Colombia. Fruit measures up to 10" long, 4" wide, with yellow skin and cream colored sweet flesh. New growth is purplish red and matures to medium to dark green. Young plants grow fairly fast. Full sun to light shade in humid tropics; some shade may be required in areas with low humidity or high temperatures. The seeds are round, weigh an average of 10 grams, 3cm diameter, and are highly perishable.
