Eugenia klotzschiana (Pera do Cerrado, Cabacinha do Campo) is a deciduous shrub with a long lanky growth habit of well spaced branches that grows up to 1.5 meters high. The long pliable branches are capable of holding a significant amount of fruit and bend well with the additional weight. The plant is native to the Brazilian Cerrado (savannah) region and found in the Brazilian states of the Federal District, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul. The pear-shapped fruit has a thin pubescent skin with thick, juicy, aromatic pulp that has a unique acidic flavor and a little astringency. The fruit is likely 70%+ pulp by weight, although this has not measured. The fruits weigh 60-90 grams and contain 1-3 seeds. The excellent flavor is similar to Eugenia stipitata and I (James Farwell) give the taste an 8/10 for flavor. The pulp is sweet enough to eat out of hand for most people, but it also makes excellent juice when blended with ice, water, and a little sugar. Seeds first made available in early 2022. Seeds weigh an average of 1.9 grams each.
