While this Eugenia has its own species name, it may be a subspecies of Eugenia involucrata (Cherry of The Rio Grande, CORG) and it is very similar to CORG. The leaves are longer and more handsome than CORG, the fruit and sepals are approximately twice as long as CORG (2"), and the flavor is slightly superior with slightly less resin. Heavy producer once per year in March - April, fruits at 4-6 years old, mature tress can take temperatures down to the low 20's. Our six year old 6' tall tree produced 150+ fruit this spring.
