Campomanesia schlechtendaliana (Gabiroba Verde Rugosa, Rugged Green Guabiroba) Seeds
Campomanesia schlechtendaliana (Gabiroba Verde Rugosa, Rugged Green Guabiroba) is an evergreen tree that grows to 15 meters with pyramid crown and a 20-30cm grooved bole. They grow rapidly in full or partial sun. Seeds show 70% germination rate after 40-50 days. The tree produces flattened globular, wrinkled, yellowish-green fruits that contain a large amount of amount (70%+ by weight) of pleasant sweet-sour pulp with small seeds. The fruits measure 3 cm diameter with a five petal sepal on the top that is easily removed. The fruit mature in the summer (July-August in the northern hemisphere, January-February in the southern hemisphere). The species is native to the Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil.
